Cox Pottery
Stoneware

High-fired stoneware pottery is very durable and is glazed with lead
free glazes. It’s ovenproof and dishwasher safe. It will last
indefinitely with proper care.

Casseroles and baking dishes should be warmed in the oven.
Soup tureens, teapots, and casseroles to be used as serving
pieces should be tempered with hot tap water before boiling water
or hot food is placed in them. Avoid sudden temperature changes
and never place a piece directly on top of a burner.

When using it in a microwave oven, make sure the food is touching
all surfaces of the piece. If these simple rules are followed, your
piece will give years of satisfaction.
Raku

Raku (pronounced ra-koo) is a Japanese word, which means
enjoyment and pleasure. The process originated over 400 years ago
in Japan. Raku ceramics need a little more care than most ceramics.
Raku should not be placed in a spot in which direct sunlight will fall
on it. It is not dishwasher safe. Raku pieces are normally ornamental
and not functional in nature. Raku is not recommended to hold liquid
(it could crack and/or leak). You could place a watertight container
inside the Raku piece if desired to use as a vase or planting pot. If an
arrangement is desired we recommend a dried floral or artificial
arrangement. Cleaning should only require a light dusting. However if
fingerprints or other stubborn marks are present a lightly dampened,
soft cloth may be used. No chemical cleaners should be used. Raku
is NOT food safe. If this is a garden or outdoor decorative piece, it is
recommended to keep this Raku piece from direct sun and rain
exposure (protected porch or alcove). If your Raku piece has
handles, they are decorative only. Do not lift it by the handles due to
the fact it is of a low-fire process and not as strong as a high-fire
ware.  All Raku will fade with time due to the re-oxidation of the oxides
in the glaze the piece may be re-fired to restore the colors and luster.
